The authorities ping Gary’s phone and find his truck at a campground, but it is empty with no sign of him. They also notice that the truck’s fingerprints do not match Gary’s. The investigation is hampered by the fact that Gary’s phone has been turned off and there are no tracks at the scene. However, Billy is able to talk to a person who had been following Gary’s vlogs and was convinced that the shack was guarded by supernatural forces. The man admits to being an exiled Native American who lived in the area, but his explanation doesn’t make much sense given the brutality of Gary’s death and the fact that he was killed inside the cabin.

When the investigators look through Gary’s backpack, they discover his severed hand, still gripping his camera. They are able to determine that the hand was removed from Gary while he was alive, and that it was probably done during a time of extreme stress or fear. The authorities conclude that Gary did indeed visit the eerie cabin and was murdered by someone who wanted to keep him from revealing its location.
